The New Orleans Saints will be missing a few notable players when they take the field Friday for the first practice of the 2013 Training Camp presented by Verizon.
Coach Sean Payton said Thursday that he's pleased with where Butler is "from a rehab standpoint” and General Manager Mickey Loomis said there is no need to place the free-agent pickup on injured reserve.
“We don’t have to do that, as long as we keep him on our 90-man roster. We will see how his rehab goes," Loomis said. "If there is a possibility if he could be back before the end of the season, maybe into a playoff run, we might have that opportunity to designate him as a player that could return.”
Colston, who ranked first on the team with 1,154 receiving yards and 10 touchdown grabs and second with 83 receptions in 2012, "has a foot that we are just being cautious on and trying to rest for what I think to be a few days or up to a week,” according to Payton.
Robinson, who appeared in all 16 games during the 2012 season and had a career-high 64 tackles, one sack, three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, 17 passes defensed and one forced fumble, had a knee scope in the spring.
“His progress has been outstanding," Payton said. "We will keep monitoring him on a more week by week basis and then go from there.”
Harper, who also started all 16 games at safety and posted a career-high 124 tackles (91 solo), ranked second on the team and also added nine passes defensed, two interceptions and one forced fumble, will be limited with a sports hernia.
“He will be ready to go," Payton said, "but we are just making sure that we progress each day in the right manner.”
Also limited during practice will be wide receiver
“Kenny Stills is battling a wrist but nothing serious,"Payton said.
