The New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Hornets joined a distinguished group of speakers at Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans to kick-off Lemonade Day Louisiana on Friday.
This year’s Lemonade Day Louisiana will be held on May 4th. Last year, over 150,000 children from 36 cities registered for the program, exceeding registration numbers from 2011.
Saints Owner/Vice Chairman of the Board Rita Benson LeBlanc will once again serve as the spokesperson for this year’s Lemonade Day Louisiana after helping to bring in over 6,000 children for last year’s program.
Lemonade Day seeks to empower youth by teaching valuable lessons about financial literacy, economics, customer service, communication and other life skills while instructing youth on how to start-up and independently run a lemonade stand.
Each child that registers receives a backpack with an Entrepreneur Workbook that teaches 14 lessons of Lemonade Day such as creating budgets, serving customers and setting profit-making goals.
Furthermore, each child also sees a reward by being able to keep all money made in the process but they are encouraged to spend some, save some, and share some with the community.
Speakers at Friday’s event included Lemonade Day founder and CEO of Georges Enterprises, John Georges, Lemonade Day City Champion and CEO of Entergy New Orleans, Charles Rice, and Lemonade Day Statewide Director, Dana Hansel, among others. The group was joined by members of the Saintsations, Honeybees, and by Saints mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint.
Following the announcement, students had prepared to sell lemonade courtesy of Raising Cane’s.
