New Orleans Saints Visit East Jefferson YMCA as Part of NFL's Hometown Huddle

Posted Oct 29, 2012

Owner/Vice Chairman of the Board Rita Benson LeBlanc and members of the Saints spent time at the YMCA after contributing two new youth fitness zones

On October 23rd, the New Orleans Saints participated in the 14th Annual NFL-United Way Hometown Huddle, a league-wide community day of service.

Saints Owner/Vice Chairman of the Board Rita Benson LeBlanc and Team Ambassador Michael Lewis joined Wide Receivers Lance Moore and Joe Morgan, Linebacker Curtis Lofton, and Long Snapper Justin Drescher as they challenged kids at the East Jefferson YMCA to begin working through their new fitness regimens in the two new youth fitness zones at the center.

Keeping in mind the message of the NFL’s PLAY 60 initiative (which was designed to help tackle childhood obesity), the Saints created the first zone that now features team-branded hydraulic fitness machines, water rowers, and aerodynamic bikes in addition to rock-climbing walls, treadmills, and a poly-pong table.

“We are all about getting the kids active for about sixty minutes a day,” said Lofton. “We wanted to encourage them to be more healthy and to have fun.”

The second zone was transformed into a fitness-inspired video gaming/creative arts room with new Wii & XBOX 360 Kinect gaming consoles, gaming accessories, and a new plasma television.

Both rooms were revitalized with Saints décor and furnishings.

“The kids really enjoyed the new additions to the center,” said Lofton. “They had so much fun, they really loved it.”

The kids will also enjoyed taking part in Saints Junior Training Camp drills with the players and team mascot, Sir Saint.

“It’s an incredible event,” said Benson LeBlanc. “It’s a fabulous facility where parents and the kids can be active, learn how to live a healthy lifestyle and really have a lot of fun.”

A special thank you also goes to Best Buy for the donation of services and Comfort Research for the donation of FUF chairs.
