Mickey Loomis announced the move Tuesday

The New Orleans Saints announced Tuesday that they have signed free agent S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (pronounced uh-KWA-see uh-WOO-sue ahn sah) to a one-year contract and waived CB Ryan Steed. The announcement was made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Owusu-Ansah is a two-year NFL veteran, who has appeared in 14 career games with two starts with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars, seeing action as a defender, a wide receiver and a kickoff and punt returner. He’s posted career totals of 14 tackles (nine solo), five special teams stops, returned 28 kickoffs for 599 yards (21.4 avg.) and brought back six punts for 47 yards (7.8 avg.). In 2011, Owusu-Ansah split the season between the Cowboys and Jaguars, appearing in seven games with two starts, posting 14 tackles (nine solo), four special teams stops, three kickoff returns for 56 yards (18.7 avg.) and six punt returns for 47 yards (7.8 avg.). In 2012, he went to training camp with the Cowboys and then joined the Oakland Raiders practice squad for the majority of the season.

The 6-1, 207-pound native of Columbus, Ohio originally entered the NFL in 2010 as a fourth round draft pick by the Cowboys out of Indiana (PA).
