New Orleans Saints-Buffalo Bills: Notebook

Posted Oct 27, 2013

The Saints improve to 6-1 with at 35-17 win over the Bills

*With the win, the Saints improve to 6-1 in defeating the Bills at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the first time in franchise history. The Saints will go back on the road next Sunday and will close out their 2013 AFC East Slate by facing the New York Jets. Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m. CT.

*The Saints improve their home record to 4-0 on the season.

*WR Marques Colston had three receptions for 18 yards, as he appeared in the 109th game of his NFL career, tying him for 36th in club record books with T Dave LaFary and CB Fred Thomas.

*WR Kenny Stills had three receptions for a career-high 129 yards and two touchdowns. His 69-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter gave the Saints a 14-10 lead to put the Saints ahead 14-10 in the contest.

*Stills joins WR Danny Abramowicz (1967), WR Larry Burton (1975), WR Tinker Owens (1976), TE Larry Hardy (1978) and Colston (2006) as the seventh Saints rookie to have a reception of at least 69 yards. Stills also had a rush for a four-yard gain.

*Stills’ two-TD performance was the first by a Saints rookie since Colston vs. Baltimore on October 29, 2006.

*WR Lance Moore returned to action after missing the last three games with a hand injury and made an immediate impact with a first quarter 15-yard touchdown reception. With his 37th career touchdown grab, he moved into a tie for fourth place on the club’s all-time list with WR Danny Abramowicz. It was his 38th overall touchdown, moving him into sole possession of sixth place on the club’s all-time list past Abramowicz. Moore finished with three receptions for 34 yards.

*RB Pierre Thomas carried 14 times for 65 yards, the most rushing yards by a Saints back this season, and also had three receptions for 29 yards. Thomas now has 5,168 Total yards from scrimmage as he moved into sixth place on the club’s all-time list past Tony Galbreath.

*TE Jimmy Graham had three receptions for 37 yards, including 15- and 13-yard touchdown receptions. It was Graham’s seventh career two-touchdown contest.

*Rookie TE Josh Hill had his first two career receptions, totaling 17 yards.

*T Zach Strief returned to the starting lineup at right tackle after missing the New England contest with an ankle injury, appearing in his 100th career game as a Saint, becoming the 50th Saint to do so.

*The Saints defense has allowed 120 points (17.1 per game) through the first seven games, the fourth-lowest total in franchise history. The only teams to allow less than 120 points – the 1991, 1992 and 2000 teams – all went on to make the playoffs.

*ILB David Hawthorne tackled Bills QB Thad Lewis on the first play from scrimmage that forced him to fumble. He later had a first-quarter sack of Lewis for a loss of six yards. Hawthorne finished with eight solo tackles to lead the defense.

*OLB Junior Galette recovered the fumble forced by Hawthorne. He also added six tackles, a forced fumble and a sack.

*DE Cameron Jordan sacked Lewis on a third down play in the first quarter, forced him to fumble and recovered it.

*Rookie DE Glenn Foster added a fourth quarter sack.

*CB Keenan Lewis stopped a Buffalo drive by picking off Lewis in the fourth quarter for his career-high third interception of the season.

*CB Chris Carr stopped a potential Bills touchdown in the second quarter when he broke up a pass intended for Buffalo TE Scott Chandler in the end zone, forcing the Bills to kick a field goal.
