New Orleans Saints Agree To Terms With TE Coby Fleener On Five-Year Contract

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with unrestricted free agent tight end Coby Fleener. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
 
Fleener, 6-6, 251, comes to New Orleans from the Indianapolis Colts, with whom he was originally selected by in the second round (34th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Stanford. He’s appeared in 60 career regular season games with 45 starts and has recorded 183 receptions for 2,154 yards (11.8 avg.) with 17 touchdowns. Since 2013, Fleener’s 15 touchdown grabs are tied for eighth-most in the NFL among tight ends. In six career postseason contests, all of them starts, Fleener has posted 21 receptions for 242 yards (11.5 avg.) with one touchdown.
 
In 2015, Fleener appeared in all 16 games for the Colts with 11 starts and recorded a career-high 54 receptions for 491 yards and three touchdowns and one successful two-point conversion. He also intercepted a pass in a Week 11 win at Atlanta on the final play of the game. His career-high reception total was ranked third on the Colts, while he ranked fourth in receiving yardage and was tied for fourth in scoring grabs.
 
Fleener came into the NFL from Stanford, where he appeared in 51 games for the Cardinal and posted career totals of 96 receptions for 1,543 yards and 18 touchdowns. He grabbed 10 touchdowns as a senior in 2011 and set the school record for highest average reception by a tight end (19.6), ranked fifth on the school’s overall charts as he earned first-team All-America Honors from The Sporting News and was named a first-team All-Pac-12 Conference selection. The Lemont, Ill. native majored in science, technology and society and earned a master’s degree in media studies.
