New Orleans Saints 2017 season recap: A.J. Klein

Klein used his patience and intelligence to hit the offense where it hurt

In his first season with the New Orleans Saints, middle linebacker A.J. Klein played a large role in helping the defense turn around its performance. Despite being injured for several games, the Iowa State product ranked No. 8 on the Saints defense in tackles. Standing at 6 feet 1 and 240 pounds, Klein used his patience and intelligence to hit the offense where it hurt, leading him to have the best statistical season of his career. In 12 games, Klein had a career-high four pass deflections, one forced fumble, two sacks, and 54 tackles – two short of beating his career high.

Best Game: In the season-opener against the Minnesota Vikings Klein had 11 tackles and one forced fumble.

Best Quote: "You have the opportunity to win this job, it's yours to lose kind of a thing, obviously, I put my nose to the grindstone and went back to work because nothing is guaranteed in this league, and nothing is guaranteed in life in general. I had to come in and prove myself to the coaches, to my teammates and show them I can be accountable and be able to make plays for this defense."
