Morgan grew up and went to high school at McKinley in Canton, Ohio. He spent his first two collegiate seasons playing for Illinois but then finished his college career playing at Walsh in North Canton, Ohio. When he returns the Fawcett Stadium on Sunday, he will have played in the stadium during high school, college and in the NFL.
“I know that stadium like the back of my hand,” said Morgan. “It is a blessing to get this opportunity from the Saints and to be able to go back and play again in Canton.”
Morgan really has known Fawcett Stadium his whole life. He played pee-wee football and Jr. high football there before attending McKinley.
“It is the best high school stadium in the nation,” said Morgan. “It is very exciting to be able to go back there and play again.”
While Morgan has thought about returning to Canton, he says that his mom is more excited about it than he is. He remains focused on the task at hand, improving each and every day and competing for a spot in the wide receiver rotation.
Morgan was signed by the Saints just before training camp last year. He started off the 2011 preseason by making some big plays before injuring his knee in a preseason contest against the Houston Texans. Morgan returned a punt 78-yards for a touchdown in the team’s first preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers and caught a 56-yard touchdown pass in the second preseason game at Houston.
Morgan returns to the Saints this season and hopes to continue improving on his past success while remaining healthy.
“My expectation is to go out and be consistent,” said Morgan. “I want to do things the right way. I want to try to go off of what I did last year and go above and beyond.”
Morgan did, however, admit that he might have stronger feelings about returning home after the team arrives. On his return home, he is also excited to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame, again, something he has done each year since elementary school. He says he always loves to go back and see what has changed since his last visit.
“If they want me to, I could be the team tour guide,” said Morgan. “I know that like the back of my hand as well.”
