This offseason is a little more relaxing for WR ![]()
Last year, he entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and with the league in a lockout, his future was uncertain.
“I didn’t really know what was going to happen or what could potentially happen last year,” said Moore. “It was tough for a lot of us because nobody wanted to get hurt and nobody knew what they could or couldn’t do.”
Even though he would have been a sought-after prospect on the open market last season, he said New Orleans was his top choice throughout the process and he agreed to a five-year deal. The wideout said his teammates and the passionate Saints fan base made it difficult to think about leaving the Crescent City.
“This offseason is totally different,” said Moore. “Now, knowing I am under contract and that I will be back in New Orleans takes the weight off my shoulders and allows me to kind of relax a little more and enjoy the offseason.”
Even though Moore has more certainty with his future this offseason, he has a similar bitter taste to how the season ended.
The Saints were knocked out of the 2010 playoffs in a Wildcard Playoff game on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. This season, Moore watched from the sidelines with a hamstring injury as the Saints fell to the San Francisco 49ers in the final seconds of the NFC Divisional Playoff game at Candlestick Park.
Despite the sour ending to the season, Moore had one of his best seasons with 52 receptions for 627 yards (12.1 avg.) and eight touchdown grabs contributing to an offense that finished ranked first in the NFL in offense (sixth rushing and first passing), as they set an NFL single-season record with 7,474 net yards.
“It’s frustrating obviously because we hoped to still be playing and playing in the Super Bowl this weekend,” said Moore. “I am trying not to watch too much SportsCenter. It’s going to be a while before that burn kind of gets off of me. At the same, I understand what we accomplished I just haven’t had much time to enjoy it.”
Moore said he doesn’t have any major vacations planned this offseason. He will split his time between New Orleans and his home in Ohio. Right now he is focused on spending time with his family and friends and preparing for the 2012 season.
The dramatic finales of the past two seasons have been the hardest for Moore to get over during his career. The seven-year veteran said having won the Super Bowl in 2009 has only increased the disappointment of not winning it again and strengthens the desire to get back.
“Before ’09 it was just like ‘Man I would like to get there someday,’ but after you get there and win, it kills you when you aren’t able to get there and get that feeling back,” said Moore. “You have to get over it and focus on the next year because nothing tops that feeling.”
