Marques Colston: 2013 season in review

Posted Jan 25, 2014

Taking a look at the veteran receiver's 2013 season

Marques Colston, wide receiver:

Colston turned in another outstanding season for the New Orleans Saints as the veteran receiver became the franchise's all-time leader in receptions (607) and receiving yards (8,337). He finished the season with 75 catches for 943 yards, coming up just shy of another 1,000-yard season. He had five touchdowns and averaged 12.6 yards per reception. His Saints teammates also voted him the winner of the Ed Block Courage Award.

Best game: Colston was sensational in the Saints' 23-15 divisional loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He had 11 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown. The veteran from Hofstra also came up with a critical onside kick recovery which kept the Saints' shot at victory alive.

Drew Brees on Colston: "“He’s the prime example, for any young player coming in, that anything is possible. He came in as a seventh-round pick and after OTAs, you didn’t think he was going to make the team. And then he comes in, and all of a sudden he’s our No. 1 receiver going into the season in ’06. He does not get the credit he deserves. But he’s a quiet, soft-spoken, come-to-work, get-the-job-done kind of guy. The story is yet to be written. I think he still has a bunch of good years left."
