Malcolm Jenkins to Host “Taste of New Orleans” Fundraiser for Hurricane Isaac Recovery Efforts

Posted Sep 11, 2012

Event to take place at the Pavilion of Two Sisters at City Park on Sept. 24

New Orleans Saints Safety Malcolm Jenkins will host “Taste of New Orleans,” a fundraiser to support the recovery efforts of the damage caused by Hurricane Isaac on Monday, Sept. 24 (7-10 pm CT) at Pavilion of Two Sisters at City Park (1 Palm Drive) in New Orleans.

The event will feature silent auction items, food from 10 to 15 local restaurants, raffles, live music and more. Jenkins said that the intent of the Taste of New Orleans event is to showcase the city’s diverse foods and culture while maintaining a charitable initiative.

All proceeds will benefit local public parks affected by Hurricane Isaac, specifically in St. Tammany and St. John the Baptist parishes, and the Malcolm Jenkins Project R.E.W.A.R.D.S. (Reinforcing Education With Activities, Recreation and Developmental Supports) Program.

“It means a lot to me because I know how much this city, and the area, was hurt by the hurricane and how much they lost,” said the Saints’ defensive captain. “We are very excited about the event.”

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation Project R.E.W.A.R.D.S. Program is a joint effort with a partnership between the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation and the Greater New Orleans Urban League-College Track.

The program is dedicated to cultivating and creating service, education and character development programs and initiatives for area youth and teens.

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation was founded in 2010 and was created to assist youth in underserved communities by providing resources, innovative opportunities and experiences that will help youth develop skills to succeed in life and become contributing members of the community. The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation also contributes scholarship money and hosts free annual youth football camps.

"This is our first fundraiser (with the R.E.W.A.R.D.S. Program) and it will be a good time,” said Jenkins. “To be able to give back is very important. My foundation is doing a lot of good things right now. I am really excited about it.”
