Keenan Lewis and Mike Wallace host more than 500 kids at football camp

Former Steelers and O. Perry Walker High School teammates Keenan Lewis and Mike Wallace hope to continue hosting New Orleans youth football camps in the offseason

New Orleans natives Saints DB Keenan Lewis and Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace hosted more than 500 kids for a youth football camp Saturday afternoon at Behrman Memorial Park.

Lewis and Wallace remain close friends after growing up together at O. Perry Walker High School and both played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2009-12.

Along with Lewis and Wallace, Rod Sweeting, Trai Turner (Carolina Panthers), Lamin Barrow (Denver Broncos), Kendrick Lewis (Houston Texans), Anthony Johnson (Miami Dolphins) and Drake Nevis (Carolina Panthers) helped with the camp.

The pros ran the campers through a number of football drills and provided one-on-one instructions.

“The response we received for this camp was great,” said Lewis. “We wanted to give back to our neighborhood and teach them about the sport they enjoy.”

The camp is just part of a big weekend for Lewis as his foundation will also host a Back to School Extrvaganza on Sunday. The event will allow students and their families to enjoy free food, snowballs, entertainment, give-a-ways, video gaming systems, rock climbing walls, massages and door prizes. The students will also receive school supplies, haircuts, dental and medical screenings, chiropractic services and school and uniform vouchers.
