Brees moves up in NFL record book Monday night

*New Orleans’ six-play, 82-yard drive to open the game with a five-yard touchdown by RB Darren Sproles marked the first time this season that the Saints scored on their opening drive. On that opening drive, QB Drew Brees passed for 70 yards and surpassed Fran Tarkenton (47,003) for sixth place on the NFL’s all-time passing yardage list.

*QB Drew Brees completed 30 of 39 passes for 413 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 144.5 passer rating. It was Brees’ 10th career 400-yard passing game – which ranks second in NFL history behind Dan Marino with 13 – and the 10th-highest single-game passing yardage total in franchise history.

*Brees now has 4,146 career completions, surpassing John Elway to move into fourth place all-time in NFL record books.

*Brees is now tied with Joe Montana for the third longest win streak (nine) by a starting quarterback on Monday Night Football with only Steve Young (10) and Ken Stabler (11) ahead of him.

*Tonight’s game marked the ninth consecutive game that Brees has thrown for at least 300 yards, tying the NFL record that he first set between the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

*Brees’ multiple-touchdown pass game was the 102nd of his career, surpassing Tarkenton by moving into sole possession of fifth place all-time. Brees trails only Brett Favre (159), Peyton Manning (139), Dan Marino (127) and Tom Brady (110).

*Brees completed at least 20 passes for the 55th consecutive game, extending his own NFL record, and topped the 200-yard passing mark for the 35th straight game. It was the tenth straight game he had 25 or more completions, tying his own NFL record.

*Brees passed for 300 or more yards for the 71st time in his career. Only Peyton Manning (76) has more 300-yard games in NFL history.
