Chevron and the Saints honored seventh-grade mathematics teacher Dr. Thomas Wright at tonight’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Wright is currently teaching at Edward Hynes Charter School in Lakeview and he is also a math education professor at the University of New Orleans.

Edward Hynes Charter School is a Type 2 conversion charter school that was open before Hurricane Katrina. Edward Hynes is categorized under the New Orleans public school system with no criteria required for admission. In 2007, he began his teaching journey at Hynes.

After graduating from Louisiana Technological University with a degree in computer science, he worked with computer software before becoming a teacher. While working with at the mathematics software company, their test subjects were students.

He would go into schools and bring the software to the children. Eventually, the children would not understand the program, so he would begin teaching a lesson and found joy in that experience.

“I truly like teaching both age groups. I think I’ve got the best of both worlds. The research that I do at the university influences the pedagogy I do at Hynes,” Wright said. “Teaching the kids really keeps me grounded.”

Wright was awarded with a certificate of appreciate and an autographed Saints football.

Wright said, “I am honestly very grateful for this and honored to be here tonight. I’m looking forward to a win!”
