Dana Gourrier, a New Orleans native, will be performing the national anthem for this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Gourrier started signing as a little girl when she would turn her living room into a stage and use a wooden spoon for a microphone. That same living room is where she would watch Saints football games with her father and her passion for the team would begin to grow.

Gourrier is excited to perform the national anthem in her hometown and for the team she grew up cheering. But being a fan doesn’t make the butterflies of singing in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome disappear.

“I’m a little nervous about 75,000 people,” Gourrier said. “But like I said before, like it’s a job that needs to be done and I just want to pay respect and homage and do our Saints proud, that’s all I’m concerned about is giving to them what they give to us.”

She began her professional career when she was 14 years old at NORD Theater and went on to earn her BFA in Performance Art from UL Lafayette and moved to New York to pursue her career. Singing is one of her many talents but she has most recently made a name for herself in the acting business.

In 2010, Gourrier received her MFA in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts and returned to her home state to follow her dreams in Hollywood South. She has had a reoccurring role in HBO’s Treme and TNT’s Memphis Beat. However, her breakthrough role came when she landed the part of Cora in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

You can watch Gourrier in her latest role in Lee Daniel’s The Butler as she plays Helen Holloway, alongside Oprah Whinfrey, Lenny Kravitz, Forest Whitaker and Cuba Gooding.
