Globally, America’s wetlands are a considerable habitat for many species of plants and animals. In recent years, this ecosystem has been undoubtedly threatened and is now dissipating from the Louisiana Coast affecting not only Louisianans, but also the country.
Founded in Louisiana in 2002, America’s WETLAND Foundation (AWF), under the direction of Chairman of the Board R. King Milling, is committed to the restoration of our coastlines. AWF first partnered with the New Orleans Saints in 2010.
Since then, the New Orleans Saints have been dedicated to restoring the Gulf Coast through their Gulf Coast Renewal Fund.
Val Marmillion, one of the campaign originators, said that this initiative can truly relate to the fans that sit in the stands every week.
“A lot of our audience consists of hunters and fisherman,” Marmillion said. “This is a great chance to show our face and get them to see how important this foundation is for their sustainability. Before you know it, not much south of I-10 is going to exist.”
Marmillion also expressed how important these efforts are to the nation, as well.
“People don’t understand how essential this ecosystem is. That’s why I’m so glad we have Rita Benson LeBlanc working on our behalf on Capitol Hill,” he said. “This isn’t just Louisiana; it’s also the nation.”

Marmillion is excited to have his passion supported by the Saints.
“I was at the very first Saints game ever played at Tulane Stadium,” Marmillion smiled. “Let’s just say, they’ve come a long way, and I’m honored to be here.”
