Rotolo’s Pizzeria, the official pizza of the New Orleans Saints, surprised students of St. Edward the Confessor School in Metairie on Wednesday, Apr. 17, with an afternoon visit by defensive end Cameron Jordan and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks.

The players teamed up with Rotolo’s to stress the importance of reading through the Roloto’s Literacy Program.

Jordan stressed to the students the importance of paying attention in class.  He said, “Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  There is no such thing as a dumb question.”

Hicks talked about how important it is to read everyday and how he continues to read in his spare time while playing in the National Football League.

“When I came home from school, my dad made me read everyday for thirty minutes," expressed the second-year defender.  "It helped me articulate my thoughts and really taught me to love reading.”

After their discussion and a few group Saints chants with the students, the players held a question and answer period where many participants were able to ask about everything from what inspired them to play football to what their favorite book was growing up.

Students had the opportunity to answer questions about the purpose of the visit in a trivia session with the winners receiving autographed 2012 Saints yearbooks.

Each student in attendance received Saints Play 60 wristbands and the children were served pizza courtesy of Rotolo’s.
