10 things Saints fans need to know about Los Angeles Rams

Posted Nov 21, 2017

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Rams were the NFL's highest-scoring team

1. After losing to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11, the Rams are now 7-3, first in the NFC West. Prior to Sunday’s loss, the Rams were the NFL's highest-scoring team; they now rank No. 2 (30.3 points/game).

2. The Los Angeles Rams entered this season as the NFL's second-youngest team, behind the winless Cleveland Browns. The Rams' only players with postseason experience are six veteran players added during the offseason – linebacker Connor Barwin, running back Lance Dunbar, center John Sullivan, defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker, cornerback Kayvon Webster and tackle Andrew Whitworth.

3. Offensively, the Rams rank No. 4 in the NFL in total yards (3,754). Defensively, the Rams rank No. 16 in total yards (3,350).

4. Wide receiver Robert Woods ranks fifth in the NFC in receiving yards, with 703 on 47 receptions. But Coach Sean McVay said Monday Woods will miss the next few weeks with a shoulder injury.

5. Running back Todd Gurley (10th overall pick in 2015) ranks No. 3 in the NFC in rushing, with 791 yards on 187 attempts. On Sunday, the Vikings held Gurley to 25 yards on 13 touches.

6. On third-down passing, Rams quarterback Jared Goff (No. 1 pick in 2016) ranks No. 2 in the NFC. Coming off back-to-back games of 300-plus yards, three or more touchdowns and zero interceptions, Goff went 23-of-37 for 225 yards in last Sunday’s game.

7. The Rams have three cornerbacks out with injuries: Troy Hill (hamstring), Kayvon Webster (shoulder) and Nickell Robey-Coleman (thigh), forcing them to go to the bottom of the active roster with Blake Countess (two years in the league) and Dominique Hatfield (rookie).

8. Whitworth is in his first year with the Rams but has 12 years of experience in the NFL. Whitworth attended LSU where he never missed a game or practice due to injury. Since being in the league, Whitworth has been in the Pro Bowl in 2013, 2016, and 2017. Whitworth also recorded three seasons with allowing only one sack or less (2007, 2014, 2016).

9. Nose tackle Michael Brockers ranks No. 11 in the league in combined tackles with 39. Brockers has recorded three sacks and three pass deflections.

10. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald poses another threat on the Rams defense. Donald is “unique with his bull-rushing, spin moves, rip moves and fundamentally sound techniques to penetrate the backfield, his all-out effort at the line of scrimmage sets him apart from virtually any NFL player.” Donald has spent four seasons with the Rams since being selected with the 13th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, starting every game. He has 24 combined tackles, five sacks, one pass deflection, and three forced fumbles and is considered one of the best defensive tackles in football.
