NFL CAREER – The fleet-footed Porter immediately stepped into the starting lineup after being selected in the second round in 2008, showing maturity and aggressive ball skills before being sidelined for the final 11 games with a wrist injury. He was extremely active in the secondary for the first five contests, ranking among the club’s leaders with 32 tackles, an interception, a sack and also deflecting five passes. A native of Port Allen, La., Allen arrived in New Orleans after a standout career at Indiana, where he departed as the only player in school history to return a punt, interception and fumble for touchdowns.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Placed on injured reserve, 10/7/08; Signed to a four-year contract, 7/25/08; Selected in the second round (40th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.

2008 – Started all five games he appeared in and recorded 32 tackles (26 solo), one sack, one interception and knocked away five passes…Became the first Saints rookie to earn an opening day start at CB since Keyuo Craver in 2002 and had a stellar debut vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 7, making six tackles (three solo) and two pass defenses…Recorded nine tackles (eight solo) at Washington, Sept. 14…Led the team with a career-high 10 tackles (nine solo) at Denver, Sept. 21…Had a big day vs. San Francisco, Sept. 28, making his first sack and later picking off his first pass, while totaling four tackles and a pass defense…Recorded three tackles and deflected a pair of passes before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a season-ending dislocated right wrist vs. Minnesota, Oct. 6.

COLLEGE – The only player in Indiana history to return a punt, interception and fumble for a touchdown in his career…Started 43 games in his career, 29 at right cornerback, 13 on the left and one at strong safety…Recorded career totals of 212 tackles (175 solo), 16 interceptions for a school-record 413 yards in returns and a touchdown…Also had two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries for 147 yards in returns, including a 76-yard touchdown…Also an excellent special teams performer, blocking a kick and returning 35 punts for 477 yards (13.6-avg.) and an 86-yard TD…Was an All-Big Ten first-team selection as a senior in 2007 as he started every game, ranking second in the league with six interception returns for 137 yards, while making a career-high 83 tackles (63 solo) with a nine-yard sack, two fumble recoveries and one returned for a touchdown…Also ranked third in the Big 10 with 254 yards on 23 punt returns (11.0 avg.)…Earned All-Big ten second-team honors as a junior as he finished fourth in the conference with four interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery…Returned 12 punts for 223 yards (18.6 avg.) and a touchdown, which would have led the nation but he was two returns below the total needed to qualify…Majored in recreational sports management.

PERSONAL – Born Terry O’Neil Porter, Aug. 11, 1986 in Port Allen, La…Attended Port Allen (La.) HS, where he played only two seasons of football, but was first-team all-district as a senior…Second-team all-district as a junior despite missing seven games with a right forearm fracture…Played quarterback, running back and wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense, where he had 11 interceptions with two TD returns as a senior…Averaged 47 yards per kickoff return and 28 yards per punt return in his final season…Also a prep standout in basketball and track.
