CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Signed to a four-year contract, 7/30/09; Selected by Saints in the fifth round (164th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE CAREER – A four-year letterman, Morstead handled both punting and kicking duties at Southern Methodist for his final three seasons and ranked among the nation’s top punters. During his career, he averaged 43.4 yards on 166 punts, with 59 downed inside the 20-yard line. Morstead departed ranked fifth in SMU history with 217 points – including a school-record streak of 78 straight PATs.

2008 – Earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors…Punted 59 times for 2,465 yards (41.8 avg.), and 20 of his kicks were downed inside the 20-yard line…Also made 11-of-15 field goal attempts and 29-of-30 PATs for 62 points…Recorded a pair of special teams tackles and took a fake punt for a 34-yard gain vs. Tulane. 2007 – Was an All-Conference USA first-team selection as he led the conference and ranked eighth in the nation with a 44.6 yard average on 57 punts, including 21 kicks inside the 20…Punting average ranked third all-time in school history…Made 13-of-20 field goals and set the conference and school season record with 43 consecutive extra points to finish with a career-high 82 points…Averaged 55.6 yards vs. North Texas, the second-highest single-game average in conference history. 2006 – All-Conference USA third-team choice, Academic All-C-USA pick and the recipient of SMU’s Special Teams Award…Led the conference and ranked 15th in the nation in punting with a 43.8 average…Dropped 18 inside the 20-yard line…Scored 73 points on 13-of-18 field goal attempts and 34-of-35 extra point attempts, also adding a solo tackle. Member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. 2005 – Redshirted.

PERSONAL – Mechanical Engineering major…Attended Pearland (Texas) HS, where he received second-team All-District honors and was named Brazoria County Special Teams MVP as a senior, serving as both the kicker and the punter…Also lettered in soccer and was a member of the National Honor Society, adding Academic All-State honors.
