NFL CAREER – Bolstering their defensive backfield, the Saints acquired Gay early in the free agency period, signing the fifth-year cornerback as an unrestricted free agent. The former New England Patriot has plenty of big-game experience, making two trips to the Super Bowl in his four NFL seasons and playing in six postseason contests (four starts) in addition to 39 regular season games, 14 of which saw him in the starting lineup. As a rookie, he was the Pats’ leading tackler in their Super Bowl XXXIX victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, making 11 solo stops. A young yet proven player, Gay has shown he can play tight man-to-man coverage as well as function in zone defense, amassing 83 career tackles along with five interceptions, 14 pass defenses, a forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, returning two of the fumbles for touchdowns.
