NFL CAREER – Over his first two seasons, Mitchell has established himself as one of the Saints' top special teams performers while providing depth to the linebacker corps. He has 26 stops on the coverage units since joining the Saints, including a career-best 15 in 2008. Because of his strength and sure tackling, the former seventh-round draft choice has also appeared in the Saints' goal-line defensive packages.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Signed to the Saints active roster off of the practice squad, 10/6/07; Signed to the Saints practice squad, 9/2/07; Waived by Saints, 9/1/07; Signed to a three-year contract, 6/18/07; Selected in the seventh round (220th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.

2008 – Played in 15 games primarily on special teams, declared inactive at Tampa Bay, Nov. 30…Recorded 15 special teams tackles on the season…Had one stop on defense, at goal line at Kansas City, Nov. 16. Also had three special teams tackles against the Chiefs, tying his career-high. 2007 – Played in 10 games after starting season on the practice squad, was inactive for three contests, and recorded 11 tackles on special teams…Signed to active roster, Oct. 6, and made NFL debut against Carolina the next day, making a tackle on special teams…Notched a season-best three special teams stops vs. Arizona, Dec. 16.

COLLEGE – A team captain as a senior, playing in 40 games (15 starts) during his career and finishing with 154 stops…Led the Volunteers in tackles in 2006 with 104 stops, adding three pass defenses and a pair of forced fumbles…Started all 13 contests and voted a permanent team captain for the final eight games…Set a career-high with 15 stops vs. Florida…Totaled a game-high 12 tackles in Outback Bowl vs. Penn State…Played in 11 games in his junior campaign with two starts… Sat out the 2004 season on a medical redshirt after suffering knee injury in previous year's bowl practice…Played in all 12 games as a sophomore, primarily on special teams, recording four tackles and a blocked punt and also had an interception on defense…Played in four games, notching eight tackles as a true freshman.

PERSONAL – Attended Virginia Pilot (Norfolk, Va.) HS…All-district as both tight end and linebacker and co-MVP choice in final season…Caught 29 passes for 500 yards and had six interceptions, five sacks and 131 tackles as a senior…Also played basketball, ran track and threw the shot put.
