CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Signed to a five-year contract, 8/10/09. Selected by Saints in the first round (14th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE CAREER – A consensus All-American and the top-rated defensive back in the NFL Draft, Jenkins became only second cornerback the Saints have selected in the first round when the club picked him 14th overall (Alex Molden, 1996). As a senior, Jenkins was honored with the Jim Thorpe Award – given annually to the nation’s finest defensive back – after recording a career-high 57 tackles and adding three forced fumbles, three interceptions, two blocked punts and a sack. He was an All-Big 10 selection for his final three years, and though Jenkins was challenged rarely over his final two seasons, he departed with 11 interceptions, including a pair that he returned for touchdowns. He started 45 of 49 career games at Ohio State – with Jenkins being the 12th player the Saints have selected from the school. Only USC (16) and Nebraska (15) have had more players drafted by New Orleans than the Buckeyes, and Jenkins is the fourth No. 1 pick from Ohio State, tied with Georgia for first in team record books. His career totals include 196 stops, 28 pass defenses, three blocked punts, four forced fumbles and 13.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
