New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant stood tall for many reasons on Monday night.
The 6-3, 290-pound Saints veteran brought his "SACK" Success Foundation to his hometown in Georgia on Monday evening at a Wal-Mart. SACK, which stands for is “Sustaining Awareness through Community Knowledge,” is Grant’s foundation and the Saints in an active force in the efforts to improve self-esteem and pride in children growing up in at at-risk environments.
One hundred area high school student athletes were handed $75 Wal-Mart gift cards on Monday night. The Foundation's goal was to recognize and reward academic achievement for student athletes.
Grant spoke to the students, looking each one in the eye as he spoke. He said that he was told many times that he could never do what he has done, but he has. He urged them to beat the standard that he is setting for them. He told them to "Always thank God for what you have" and to "always keep good people around you.”
The selected students were from Miller, Seminole and Early Counties. Bainbridge Wal-Mart also supported the event.
