Saints to Kick Off Annual Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank

The New Orleans Saints, Winn-Dixie and Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans & Acadiana will officially launch their annual two-week food drive with a major family fun event featuring Saints players, Saintsations, the Saints Experience, a jazz band, face painters and more Tuesday evening at the Winn-Dixie location across the street from the Saints’ Metairie training complex on Airline Drive.
Saints Owner/Executive Vice President Rita Benson LeBlanc will get the campaign underway at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday along with Natalie Jayroe, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana and Dave Henry, Winn-Dixie’s Senior Vice President of Marketing.
Following the news conference, Saints players and Saintsations will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos with Saints fans. In addition, the Saints Experience will be set up and the Family Fun event will run until 7:00 p.m.
Kicking off on October 16, the food drive will run through the end of the month with special donation barrels located at all New Orleans-area Winn Dixie stores. In addition, a major food collection will take place at the Superdome prior to the Saints’ November 4 home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
There will be a special presentation with the tally of the total amount of food donated throughout the drive at the following week’s game against the St. Louis Rams.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana provides food to over 180 non-profit and faith-based agencies throughout its 23-parish service territory from the Mississippi border to the Texas state line. Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Food Bank has distributed more than 72 million pounds of food and supplies, more than four times its annual distribution amount before the storms. Through its member agencies and its feeding programs, the food bank serves nearly 250,000 people annually and distributes food to provide an estimated 63,000 meals each week.
